Refugee Sponsorship Program

As a private, refugee agreement holder with the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), HT-SACA has been sponsoring and supporting refugees settle in Canada for more than 2 decades.

The program sponsors refugees through Canada’s Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program (PSRP). Some of the activities conducted in this program include:

  • Refugee application support
  • Pre-departure logistics
  • Post-arrival services
  • Refugee settlement support

Refugees Settlement Programs

This program focuses on the integration of refugees in Canada.

The program implements various activities to support refugees as they settle in Canada. Some of the activities in this program include:

  • Orientation & information sessions
  • Cultural coaching
  • Language translation services
  • English language training and conversation circles
  • Intercultural connections
  • Resource center
  • Digital literacy skills

Children and Youth Program

The program supports immigrant and refugee children and youth arriving in Canada need to integrate fast into the community and get involved in school/learning, sports, health programs and play.

The program ensures a smooth transition of refugee children and youth into Canadian systems. Some of the activities conducted in this program include:

  • Homework club
  • Cultural training
  • Summer day camp
  • Mentorship
  • Civic engagement
  • Personal & Leadership skill training
  • Friendly PEERsuasion program

Girl's Program

The goal is to empower immigrant and refugee girls to have equitable opportunities to achieve their potential as they settle and integrate in Canada.

Some of the activities conducted in this program include:

  • Personal development and leadership training
  • Career development and mentorship
  • The friendly PEERsuasion program

Women Empowerment Program

The program focuses on empowering immigrant and refugee women supporting their integration and prosperity as they settle in the new community with their families.

Some of the activities implemented under this program include:

  • Collective kitchen
  • English language conversation circles
  • Parenting skills and intergenerational communication
  • Mom’s housekeeping and health education sessions
  • Digital literacy
  • Women only swim club
  • Driving coaching
  • Women in leadership training

Men's Program

The program supports immigrant and refugee men to navigate the complex mainstream and community systems to facilitate the settlement process of the entire family

Some of the activities conducted in this program include:

  • Employment training
  • Driving coaching
  • Cultural coaching
  • Digital literacy skills
  • English language training
  • Men conversation circles
  • Leadership training
  • Men's health talk

Seniors' Program

The goal of the program is to prevent/reduce the risk of social isolation among seniors by improving community connectedness to increase social awareness and participation by seniors (and their families and caregivers), using an inter-generational, inter-cultural and inter-professional approach.

Some of the activities within this program include:

  • Seniors Connection and Opportunities (SCO) Hub: inter-cultural, inter- professional and inter-generational special events/activities
  • Seniors’ digital literacy
  • Physical, social and mental health wellness activities
  • Turtle Tracking: an out and indoor walking track for seniors
  • Tablet lending and book club
  • Seniors’ Cookhouse: explored age-friendly and dementia-friendly dining experiences: menu planning, intercultural foods sharing, cooking lessons

Antiracism and Bullying Program

The main goal of this program is to enhance understanding of racism/bullying and equip program participants with anti-racism coping skills as we address barriers to participation, promote healing and combat systemic and structural racism.

The main goal of this project is to help refugees, families, and children/youth embrace and retain their cultural identity as we demystify cultural stereotypes that lead to racial conflict/misunderstanding.

Gang Violence Reduction Program

The main goal of this program is to enhance youth RESILIENCE to gang-violence engagement and improve KNOWLEDGE and AWARENESS of the CONSEQUENCES of violence among youth, families, and the society.

This project targets vulnerable BLACK COMMUNITY youth from marginalized, low-income, immigrant and refugee communities.

Digital Storytelling Program (General)

The Digital Storytelling Program targets new immigrant and refugee children in Canada and supports them to utilize various media techniques to create and share stories with their peers.

The purpose of this program is to enhance the cultural interaction and communication skills among new immigrants and refugees.
